Native Food Sovereignty

Our Food Sovereignty Initiative is inspired by our Native youth and guided by the cultural and traditional ways of the Nakoda & Aaniiih people of the Fort Belknap Reservation. We base our Nakoda and Aaniiih traditional ways on GENEROSITY, WISDOM, RESPECT, COURAGE, AND PATIENCE.

Language Revitalization

Life’s Language Lodge is committed to fostering the growth of our Nakoda and Aaniiih languages. At the end of an era with almost no surviving first language speakers, Nakoda Aaniiih Economic Development Corporation was awarded an Ester Martinez grant from the U.S Administration for Native Americans in 2019. We have not only met but exceeded each grant benchmark since 2019.

Community Based Entrepreneurship

We create community-based social enterprises to improve the lives of the communities located on the Fort Belknap reservation. Community-based enterprises are a means of benefiting all communities on the Fort Belknap reservation and not for private gain. It provides a way to mobilize and empower communities and community members to manage their well-being and benefit from economic activities. We assist with expanding entrepreneurial activities and provide technical assistance to community-based enterprises and entrepreneurs.

Indigenous Youth Leadership

Our new youth leadership and development project focuses on creating more opportunities for native youth on the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. We want our youth to engage and learn about traditional ecological knowledge, the Aaniiih & Nakoda languages, and traditional-based activities. We provide the opportunity to learn arts & crafts such as sewing, beading, regalia making, Native games, traditional based customs such as sweat ceremonies, intergenerational transfer of knowledge, and nurturing their needs to help support their growth and forge strong partnerships with their peers and community.
